Talented artist Andrea Hickey, who is located in Vermont, is the person we are thrilled to present to you today. Andrea is a graphic designer, copywriter, and illustrator who is well-known for her humorous comic series. Her series is characterized by strips that characters can relate to, unexpected twists, and unexpected conclusions.

Bored Panda made contact with Andrea in order to acquire further information on her comic art. “When I was in high school, I would draw little comics for my friends because I thought they were funny. I would exaggerate situations that occurred in class that I thought were funny.” She began by describing what prompted her to start the series.
I was usually doodling on handouts in class while my instructors were talking, and my closest buddy and I would often send intricate pictures back and forth to each other in study hall. I actually published a post on BuzzFeed about how we did this. I even created a few intricate works of art using Microsoft Paint (may it rest in peace). During my time working as an illustrator for BuzzFeed, I was given the opportunity to create comics for a living.

“It was because of these cartoons that I experienced a sense of inspiration.” Emily Carroll, Jillian Tamaki, Sammy Harkham, and Rebecca Mock are some of my favorite comic book artists. I also enjoy the work of Jennifer Tamaki. ‘Over the Garden Wall’ is something that I feel compelled to mention because it is autumn.

Lastly, Andrea shared her thoughts on the most satisfying parts of being a comic book artist, drawing on her own experiences. She said, “At this point in my career, I wouldn’t classify myself as a comic book artist, although I’d like to create more comics!” However, it was quite satisfying to utilize my own personal perspective in order to connect with a large number of individuals online.
