How To Decorate With Mirrors (25+ Mirror Decorating Ideas)

0

One of my favorite ways to make a room feel better is to add mirrors. This guide on how to decorate with mirrors will help you add some beautiful mirrors to your home design, whether you want to see some pictures or get some ideas.

I have to say…Really, I can’t get enough of mirrors. One of my favorite ways to make a room more interesting is to add them. I’m not the only one…Large curved mirrors run the length of one wall in the Palace of Versailles, which was built in the 1600s. The room is called the “Hall of Mirrors.”

If they’ve been used for decoration for so long, there must be something good about them. Of course, most of our homes, including mine, aren’t even close to this fancy. A little less is going on with how I decorate with mirrors now. You don’t have to feel bad if you have the room and want to try to make your own Hall of Mirrors. Now, let’s look at some great mirror decorating ideas.

Get The Right Sized Mirror

Right Sized Mirror

The first tip is about how big your mirror is. The mirror you hang over something shouldn’t be bigger than the item of furniture it’s hanging over. Also, it shouldn’t be less than half the width of the furniture unless you’re putting it together in a gallery or grouping . Still, getting bigger is almost never a problem. The bigger and taller the mirror, the more it says.

Hang It At The Right Height

Hang It At The Right Height

The next thing people want to know is how high to hang mirrors. So, here are some rules: A big mirror should sit about 6 inches above the back of the couch. If you put a big mirror above a fireplace, it should be close to the wall (less than 4 inches above) or sit on it. Small mirrors that hang on the wall should be placed at eye level, just like a picture. Most of the time, groups of small mirrors look better.

Check the Reflection

Make sure you look at the image when you choose where to put the mirror. If you mirror a pretty light fixture or window, the room will look bigger and brighter. Plus, being able to see the main piece of furniture or other decorations makes the room feel friendlier. Avoid making the mistake I did in my bathroom, where the mirror showed the toilet.

Match Your Style

Every mirror is different in size, shape, and style. Get one with a shape and frame style that matches what you already have in the room to make sure it will look good.

Feng Shui Your Fireplace

Even though I’m by no means an expert in Feng Shui, I’ve always been interested in how it works in design. It also seems that putting a mirror above the stove is a good Feng Shui practice in general. It’s a “water” element, and the stove is clearly a “fire” element. They balance each other out, which makes unity.

Make A Dark Room Look Brighter

Make A Dark Room Look Brighter

You can make a room brighter by adding a mirror. This works especially well if the room is dark or doesn’t get much light. To make the light come back into the room, just put a mirror across from a window or next to a lamp or chandelier. Make sure the image you choose is big enough to make a difference.

Make Small Spaces Feel Bigger

Make Small Spaces Feel Bigger

A big mirror can make a small room feel bigger by reflecting light and the view back into the room. To make my mom’s small living room look bigger, we put mirrors on the front of a floor-to-ceiling pantry cabinet. This mirror trick hides the storage space and makes the room look twice as big. What else makes this room look bigger? In the corner, the mirrors are set up.

Create A Focal Point

Create A Focal Point

Put up an interesting mirror in a room that doesn’t have a clear focus point, like one without a fireplace or big window. This will help draw attention to the mirror. If you pick a frame that is the same color as the furniture it is hanging over, the two will look like they belong together.

Create A “Window” Where There Isn’t One

Create A “Window” Where There Isn’t One

Putting a mirror in the shape of a window on a wall that doesn’t have one can make it look like it does. That’s especially useful for making a dark area brighter. This window frame came from an old building that was being fixed up on the land where I got married. It’s in my stairwell. A mirror in the space between the windows is another way to do this. On either side of the mirror, hang curtains. It gives the room the same vibe as a wall of windows and makes it seem bigger.
